Real busy so feed on this for today...
A while back I worked with the homie Roberto with the intent of making a TAKS song and getting it played on the announcements at school. Well I'm currently working with a really weak microphone and I didn't support releasing such low quality work. Recently with all the free time at school I've played the track multiple times and it's been greeted with laughs so I'm kinda regretting not making a high quality version. So here is a video of us recording.

Mr. Solo Dolo...Enough about me

Hello! Prom is today and after getting a fresh cut and mustache trim (step your game up), I finally feel ready/excited. Picking an outfit that would have me stand out above the average guys but not too much to where I can't get a dance seemed kinda hard, but I think I successfully copped the appropriate accessories to complement my (for lack of better word) swag.

I wanted to...

• do suspenders but it just seemed too extravagant.
• wear a "tuxedo t-shirt" underneath my suit and then bust out of the soot halfway through the dance....but i decided against it.
• wear a white casio g-shock, but its kinda played out and i didn't have the guap
• wear jordans, but again the money issue

I do not support paying exorbitant amounts of money just to get a t-shirt. I would support it if it came with style and personality. But luckily it doesn't. So for the stylish, interesting, and broke....go buy some reduced price gear at attic.

Jingle Journey: Part I

You can't start a journey without research. Lol and I'm still convinced that I'm going to try to record this jingle with in the next few weeks. So I spent the last 15 minutes of my 3rd period today researching how this whole jingle business (that sounds nasty)works.

Just got to the crib and hit up youtube for classic jingles. If you're in the Dallas area then you know all about that Driver's Select jingle. I don't know about yall but it makes me want to get a nice car at an affordable price. (they didn't pay me to say that).

OMG... I DIDN'T THINK THIS WOULD WORK!!

After a long day at the library, (check that place out sometime)I came home and started scheming of ways I could make some extra cash for college and maybe even jump start Ley Media....so I sent out an email (the text is below - click to enlarge)... and about 20minutes ago I checked to see if i had received something and it's crazy because the guy (sorry, CEO's deserve more respect) actually responded. I'm a mixture between worried and excited right now.

I got bronze in a poetry contest this past weekend, and I'm still kinda pissed. They judged all on my delivery and not my content. The contest was supposed to be focused on content. But hey, I can't do anything about that now, I just have to start memorizing more of my work and putting on better "shows".

Is it a problem to see talent and want to spread it? expose it? deliver it? Evidently. It's great to share passions with others. But it sucks when your passion can only drive you to action, leaving both of you productless. and empty.

In my Theory of Knowledge class yesterday my teacher (who is aware of my "interest" in rap" took the liberty to read an article about how rappers are vowing to change the rap game now that Obama is in office. This then led to a discussion of the proper usage of the "N" word (which some white students handled very poorly). My point to the argument was that the "N" word will never be abolished no matter how hard we try to get rid of it, and even if we destroy it momentarily it's just gonna sneak back into society when a kid listens to some old rap. I don't really agree that the rap game is going to change JUST because Obama is in office, because the game has been changing and demanding change ever since all those "snap music songs" and simple dance records flooded the radios a few years ago. I am glad to witness the new era of rap, because I can see it slowly shifting back to more thought out verses and punchlines that don't peak at the third grade level. And I really love the lines where you have to search it on Wikipedia to find out what it means. (Jay-z Brooklyn we go hard) But dance records are necessary to keep that...BALANCE.

LeyMedia: What up let's get it poppin.

Ebonics: iight

LM: You sent me a couple of love songs. Would you describe them as great story telling or reflections of life experiences?

Ebonics: Honestly I think that it’s a mixture of both. When I write music I definitely try to relate my music as much as possible to my own personal experience but I also make it so that listeners can relate to the songs as well. The love songs I make aren't necessarily 100 percent about my own personal experiences but they definitely describe the way I feel at certain times and I’m sure they do put into words the way my listeners feel sometimes. So yeah, I would say it’s a mixture of both.

LM: Cool, and speaking of life experiences what in your childhood pulled you into rap?

Ebonics: I think growing up where I grew up is what ultimately pulled me into rap. Growing up in the South Bronx which is the birthplace of Hip-Hop and Rap music, everyone rapped or sang or was artistic in someway so I was always exposed to that. Seeing my friends rap at school and in my neighborhood made me start writing and eventually it turned into something that I enjoyed doing

Ebonics: Haha. You’re giving me honest questions I’m giving you honest answers

LM: I respect that. Moving on...Do you think you learned more about rapping (metaphors, similes, etc.) in an English class or by listening to other rappers?

Ebonics: A lot of it has to do with listening to music. The more music you listen to the more adept you become at thinking...Like when you hear a hot line or some song that makes you think it encourages you to think outside the box...But I definitely think that English class could definitely help by giving you exposure to poetry and different forms of writing. The more you learn, the smarter you become and the easier it becomes for you to think. Ultimately though I think that it comes with listening to good music

LM: I agree. For me, see it as a challenge when I hear a tight line from Kanye, or Jay or whoever, and when I write I’m striving to write something that they wished they thought of.

Ebonics: Yeah definitely

LM: I know you're at a boarding school, and I’m not quite sure how stuff works up there, so how do you balance rapping and school?

Ebonics: Haha well going to boarding school is probably the same as going to day school if not easier because I don’t have to commute. In terms of rapping though its not that difficult to balance. Usually throughout the week, whenever I have free time ill write 2 or 3 lines here and there to add on to my song and next thing you know i'll have a whole verse. Then, on weekends, I usually record a track or finish up one.

LM: Oh I thought it was a lot stricter than that. What program you using and what type of mic?

Ebonics: Well I just got a mac so I’ve been using garage band and the microphone on the mac. But I edit it on audacity as well sometimes. Other than that nothing really. It's pretty amazing how easy it is to make music nowadays.

LM: Yeah making the game superfluous with kids with just a computer and a mic. But I was listening to your stuff and quality wise you've moved forward in what you've been making since those days you used to send me those soundclick links.

LM: Aight and in quick response...What personal laws do you live by?

Ebonics: Respect, integrity, honesty and character

LM: nice

LM: ok now for the real questions:

LM: Kim Kardashian or Beyoncé

Ebonics: Haha. I'd have to go with Kim man. She’s sexy and we know she’s a freak.

LM: LMAO. I’m a beyoncé man.

LM: (6:19:01 PM): Uhh if you had to spend the rest of you life in a single brand of clothing what would it be?

Ebonics: Ooo That's a tough one...I'd have to say Polo though

LM: smooth. I was thinking LRG for me. (but they don't make suits).

Ebonics: Oh that’s a good choice.

LM: So I’m guessing you’re a Mac over a PC?

Ebonics: Yeah now I think I am. I used to have a PC but when I got a Mac I started second guessing PC's.

LM: I’m saving up for one for college. Any lasts words for the people (mixtapes, shows, website url, etc.)

Ebonics: Well I just finished my first mixtape Mr. Neon and I’m currently on the grind with my new one “The Drawing Board” so look out for that.

LM: Aight thanks man

Recorded a rough draft of a track yesterday.
Hopefully the homies can come over tomorrowand record so we can start distributing this music. Oh and I did my first interview earlier this week and you'll see that and hear his music on Monday.

What up world! I was in Study Skills today playing some Monopoly / trying to cram for a reading quiz (that we ended up not having) when I was called outside by a lovely lady on our yearbook staff to do an interview for the yearbook. First I thought I was going to have to talk about basketball and how I am no longer a playing, but she surprised me when she started talking about the S.O.S. talent show. Apparently I was the last of the crew to get interviewed. But it was cool, I hope my words don't get twisted. COol little interview though I'm looking forward to seeing it in the yearbook.

I need to start carrying a recorder with me.
